Fall Reflections: Ministry and growth at University of Denver
Autumn on the University of Denver's campus offers a unique experience. The brownstone buildings and the changing leaves adorning the trees make DU's campus an exceptionally special place. The lively conversations and the enthusiasm of the freshmen create an excting atmosphere for ministry.
It's challenging to compare this year's fall launch to the previous one due to some changes over the past two years. Nevertheless, I love having another quarter on campus, and even more so to contemplate the wonderful work the Lord is accomplishing in the lives of Denver's students.
When comparing this year to the last, one of the most remarkable observations has been the increase in the number of students attending the fall retreat. In just one year, we've seen a jump from only 6 DU students at the fall retreat to 18 students! We're offering praise to God for the interest shown by numerous students this year. Our hopes and prayers are that they will remain engaged, become more involved, and take steps of faith to contribute to God's work in building His kingdom, whether it's here in Denver or back in their hometowns!
100+ students from CSU, CU, DU, and Mines gathered in Allenspark, CO for RMGA
Rocky Mountain Getaway (RMGA) kept me quite busy as I served as the emcee for the entire weekend and conducted an in depth seminar on maintaining a Christian framework in every aspect of our lives. The talk delved into the unsteady foundations that secular reason often presents as sturdy. A temptation many students encounter on campus is an encouragement to justify Christianity on the grounds of secular reason. Instead, I encouraged students to think exclusively within the Christian worldview, as attaching "Christian" to any other worldly ideology increases confusion in life, creates an idol of the ideology, and diminishes the significance of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Christianity is the only worldview that provides firm footing, coherence, and allows all facets of life to remain integrated.
Our plans for the remainder of the semester include the continuation of our weekly Bible studies, with men focusing on gaining wisdom and learning to live virtuously through the help of Proverbs and women delving into the Gospel of John. Additionally, I continue to host Thursday night events and activities this semester centered around the theme of a grounded and thorough Christian worldview. Discipleship and evangelism are ongoing, with hopes and prayers that more students will join in and that Christ’s kingdom will continue to expand on DU’s campus.
I kindly ask for your prayers as we continue to contribute to the advancement of Christ's kingdom in Denver.
